Volunteering is one of the most important things you can do as a human being.

Cuban Ambassador Olga Trias visits Richmond Vale Academy: "For me being a volunteer is one of the most important things you can do as a human being. The people of the world we have to help each other, we do not ought to wait for someone to come and do these things for us.

We shall do it ourselves, us in the developing world. We have many things to do together and we can help each other very efficiently. In helping others, we are helping ourselves. We are creating a better world, and this world has to be better, and we cannot expect that we can solve all our problems unless we help each other. So for me and for those in Cuba, being an international, as we call it, or a cooperante (volunteer) is the most beautiful thing you can do and it is an experience that will teach you.

You will be a different person. You will get another dimension of the world, of the reality, you will value better where you live, the good things you have in your country, and the many things you still have to do in your country and for others.

I am convinced that young people will really become better human beings if they at least once in their life can do something for others. It is the least we can do to help each other.
