WELCOME NEW TEAMS!

Soon a smaller Ecuador Team will start in July and a bigger Africa Team in September, before finally the Ecuador November Team will start. For all you new people coming, watch here for updates on the program!

Dear all new people coming for the Africa and Ecuador Teams in 2010!

We are ofcourse very much looking forward to see you and if you have alot of questions, do not hesitate to contact sidsel@humana.org and ask her.

One update is coming here now for the new teams.

This is how you will fundraise.

The current teams are fundraising in promotion and this will continue. After three years in a small country like St. Vincent fundraising on the island is not an option anymore for your program fees. We will do fundraising in St. Vincent for community events that we carry out here.
Every participant for Africa is required to fundraise 1500 USD and through promotion this can be reached by enrolling 3 participants for new teams starting. Every participant for Ecuador fundraise 300 USD, and this goal can be reached by finding a number of interested people to the program, called inquiries.

To fundraise in promotion we work every Wednesday and Thursday after lunch till the evening and place adverts on the internet, network through face book and similar pages, contact volunteer organizations for exchange and getting adverts in newspapers for free.

We would like to advice you to start looking for good sites on the net already now before arriving to RVA.

What are you going to eat?

You will arrive to a different country and a different culture, so the food will taste different. Since the end of 2009 we are slowly changing to almost only eating locally produced foods. This means that getting used to yam, calaloo, dasheen, breadfruit, sweet potato, cassava, plumrose, waxapples and other local stuff might be a challenge. We also eat fish and some locally produced meat, but it is not meat every day. So for the ultimate meat lover, be prepared for this.
We eat alot of vegetarian foods like soya, lentils and peas - besides alot of beans.

In case of emergency there is a small restaurant called Beachfront that is within walking distance, where you can buy fish and chips or chicken and chips and coke if you crave for this.

We grow vegetables here at the school also, this means that if we have great success with green beans, lettuce and tomatoes, it will be on the table every day. We are in fact... quite proud of what we can produce ourselves.

When you start probably the first sheep and first pigs we grow ourselves will be ready for eating, during 2011, we will be able to eat half a sheep or half a small pig pr week. By 2011 we also can produce 30 eggs pr day so we can be self sufficient with eggs.

You will have coffee sometimes and tea every day.
